God's Perfect Son

Sun in the sky
Clouds in the air
Fishes in oceans
And birds everywhere
Are all God's creations
That I can enjoy
I feel like He made them for me.

Lightning and thunder
Large waves of the sea
Rock breaking earthquakes
And wind bending trees
All speak of God's power
Much greater than mine
He uses that power for me.

The coo of a dove
A small baby's cry
The soft gentle music
Of a sweet lullaby
Are all gifts from God
He hopes I'll enjoy
Sweet sounds that bring His peace to me.

Words that are unkind
A sharp kind of pain
Feeling so lonely
And buried in shame
Are all things our Savior
Can help me with now
He gives me His grace willingly.

A life that feels heavy
A path that seems black
A heart that feels broken
A time full of lack
The Lord understands these
He reaches for me
Sending peace, and enough light to see.

A Savior who loves me
The beauty around
His power to help
And the peace in good sounds
The hope that my Father
Gave me through the One
The Lord Jesus, God's perfect Son.

There is Hope Every Day

A blast from the past.  My family in 2009 while visiting Nauvoo, Illinois.
(This is a song I wrote for my children)

There is Hope Every Day

Children of mine, here's a song just for you
A song from your mother, I love you, I do.
These are the things that I want you to know
At all times and all of the places you go.
You have a Father in heaven divine.
You were His child, before you were mine.
He knows your name and all you can be,
And loves you a lot, even better than me.

Father sent you here to become just like Him
He knows us all well, and He knew we would sin.
It takes lots of practice to get things just right,
We'd need to be perfect to get back to His light.
We need a perfect body and to not do things wrong.
The way would seem hard, and the journey seem long.
It would be hopeless but we have a brother,
Who loves you more surely than even your mother.

He came and He suffered for every mistake
That all of His brothers and sisters would make.
He did it so we could get better each day.
He did it so we would all know the way.
When you fall down He won't give up on you.
We'll get back to Father through all He did do.
He was resurrected, so you will be too
With a perfect body, a free gift to you.

So when life feels heavy, or you're feeling sad.
When you're feeling broken, or think you are bbad.
When you've lost a loved one, and your heart seems sore.
When you think that you cannot take anymore.
When friends don't seem friendly, and you feel alone,
When you want to just laugh, but it comes out a moan.
Here are the things that I want you to know,
Every time and in all of the places you go.

Chorus:
There is hope every day.
There's a light for your way.
There is love that won't end.
There is a perfect friend.
There is help when you fall.
Father hears when you call.
Jesus came just for you,
And I love you too.

Atoning One

 Atoning One

With joy and happiness we sing
Our praise to Christ the King.
He gives us life.  He gives us love.
We sing our thanks to heav'n above
For the Atoning One.

He came to Earth, a tiny son
Of The Most Holy One.
He learned like we do, grace by grace
And soon He knew His special  place
As the Atoning One.

The time was near when He must die
"Remove this cup" He cried.
But knowing that we needed Him
He took our punishment for sin.
He's our Atoning One.

So from His sorrow we are saved
The pathway home He paved.
And if we will repent we'll find
An inner joy, and peace of mind
From the Atoning One.

And with this new peace we will sing
Our praise to Christ the King.
He gives us all He has to give.
If we will follow Him we'll live
With the Atoning One.

Relief

Relief

When the night comes early
And morning's far away,
Then we can turn to Jesus
And get a glimpse of day.

When our hopes seem buried,
And joy is hard to find,
Then we can turn to Jesus
Who will give us peace of mind.

When sorrow seems so final,
And our laugh is buried deep,
Then we can turn to Jesus
For a joy that we can keep.

For once night did come early,
Jesus' cross was on a hill,
And wicked men felt triumph,
The our Savior they did kill.

Those who loved Him felt their hope
Was buried in the tomb,
And they wondered if they'd live
Through the terror and the gloom.

But the Lord's work was not finished,
The night, it soon did flee,
As Jesus rose up from the dead
For all mankind -- for me.

He took our grief and sorrows.
He took our fear and pain.
He took away the sting of death.
We all will live again.

And in our greatest trouble
And our times of greatest grief,
The Savior reaches out His hand
And sends to us relief.

Standing in the Sun

Standing in the Sun

How do I find some joy today?
How can I see morning lights first ray,
When it seems that the clouds are thick and deep?
Where is the peace I seek?

How can I find a hope that's deep?
How when I feel so very weak?
Where do I go when the path's unclear?
How do I conquer fear?

I reach through the darkness to the light.
I step out boldly into the night.
I hold my head up in spite of pain.
And I find sunshine in the rain.

I see in my mind my Savior's face.
I feel in my heart His loving grace.
I reach out my hands to His wounded ones.
And then I am standing in the sun.

Our Home in Heaven

You have a loving Father
Up in heaven above,
And an older brother
Who taught the world of love.
You have their words in scripture,
So you will know the way
To make it back to heaven
To live with them someday.

Our home up there is happy,
We're loved and understood,
Our wants and needs are known,
And the feeling there is good.
Our Father's not too busy
To hear our heart's complaint
Or listen to our joys
Or to strengthen us when faint.

And though we are not home now
He'd like us to come back;
He sent His only Son
To show us the right track.
Our brother made it possible
To bridge the chasm wide,
And if we turn to Him
He'll help us to His side.

Father never feels too weary,
Or thinks we matter not
For we are all His children,
And He loves us all a lot.
He lets us choose our own way.
He will not force us home.
He'll let us walk in darkness,
And on thorny pathways roam.

But He is ever calling
Hoping we will hear
Knowing if we'll stop to pray
That we could feel Him near
And if we'll look He'll lead us
From darkness into light
Onto the straight and narrow path
Where we can choose the right.

And if we do not weary
Of traveling the road,
And call  upon Him for help
With carrying our load
The path will lead us home
To that peaceful place above
That is never filled with darkness
And is always filled with love.

The Battle

 The Battle

Satan is waging a battle
Against the souls of men.
Bar the door with the Iron Rod
And do not let him in.

He wants us to be so busy,
So frantic every day,
That we forget to take the time
To get on our knees and pray.

He fights a vicious warfare,
Our fathers he would take.
He wants them to focus on things
That would cause their souls to break.

He will not stop at fathers,
He wants the mothers too.
He'll try hard to distract them
From the good that they could do.

The children are included
In his all-out evil war.
He keeps them entertained
So they won't fight him anymore.

But we have a friend in battle.
Our Captain's at the helm.
He'll lead us on to victory yet.
Satan cannot overwhelm.

We'll bar the door with the Iron Rod.
We'll bow on our knees to pray.
We'll turn to our Savior in time of need,
And we will win the day.

Miracle Boy

Miracle Boy

Christmas gifts beside the tree
Some for you and some for me
Giving gifts helps us to share
To show our loved ones that we care.

Jesus taught me how to love
When He came down from heaven above.
When in the Garden of Gethsemane
He paid for my sins because He loves me.

When Jesus came on an important day
And was tucked in a manger in the hay
Angels sang and shepherds knelt
As the heavens exclaimed with the joy that was felt.

I love Jesus and Jesus loves me.
I think of Him as I look at the tree.
I'll try to help my loves ones feel joy.
As I remember the life of the miracle boy.

Shoes So Worn

Shoes So Worn

Twas the week before Christmas and  Mom was a grouch.
She hated to move an inch from the couch.
The Dad and the kids were distraught (so they say).
And wondered what could have made her this way.

She used to love Christmas in so many ways!
She used to count hours and minutes and days!
And now there she say.  What a sorry sight.
She sat all day long and on into the night.

The Dad, he decided she must need a break,
So he did all the work he could possibly take.
The children just whined.  They knew something was wrong.
And when Mom sat on the couch, days were awfully long!

The Mom, she was thinking of what she should do.
Her feet felt like lead.  She was awfully blue.
She pondered the reason that this would be,
And finally decided; She thought she could see.

So she broke the silence that had lasted days.
She called Dad and children to tell them the way,
That she could get over the sad grouchy blues.
She asked them to get on an old pair of shoes.

"What will we do?" they thought, never quite knowing,
Where in the world their Mom planned on going.
They did what she asked and their old shoes they wore,
Wondering if they were going out doors.

Was building a snowman the thing they would do?
Would that somehow save the Mom from the blues?
No, when they gathered the Mom said a prayer.
They always said prayers before going somewhere.

At last Mom got up from the couch.
And walked with the family out of the house.
She had them all carry an armload of stuff,
Mumbling that she hoped it was enough.

They carried presents, treats, and tags.
They carried paints and shopping bags
All full of food and tools and wood.
They were going out to do some good.

They gave presents to those without;
Talked to the lonely on their route.
They followed Mom out in the woods
Where they found some hungry to give the food.

To those who knew not what Christmas was for,
They sang songs of Jesus' birth at their door.
And finally with just wood left and some tools
They smiled at the people who thought they were fools.

They walked through the mud with their worn, old shoes
To a place where their paint and tools they could use.
They fixed up a house for someone who could not.
Smiling and singing songs some had forgot.

And then, very tired, and worn out all through,
They followed the Mom who was no longer blue.
They fell in their beds and were quickly asleep.
No whining was heard from the kids, not a peep.

For as they walked in those old shoes
To cure their Mom from the awful blues,
They found they followed, like shepherds of old,
A star like the one in the story that's told.

At least it seemed as if they had.
And in their hearts they were really glad.
For it seemed as if, in the shoes so worn,
They truly celebrated when Jesus was born.
